First Event of 2022: Imbolc New Moon
Cheers for the first event of 2022!
Join Riss Cottrill at Koru on February 2nd from 7:00-8:30 PM for a Full Moon Ceremony, honoring the historic practice of "IMBOLIC"
Imbolc is a Celtic Festival on the Germanic Pagan Wheel of The Year.
On this day, people have celebrated and continue to celebrate... the return of spring, the point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
It is understood to be a way for people to measure the rhythms of nature and to stay connected to these cycles.
This festival specifically celebrates the inevitable returning of warmth, the rebirth of warmth.
Riss will be discussing the rebellious aspect of "nature," as well as the need for authenticity. Participants will be guided to set their intentions, a way of planting seeds for the spring…

Learn a Mindful Breathing Practice
There are many types of breathing and meditation practices. Here is one method to help you practice mindful breathing throughout your day.
When we were young, breathing came extremely naturally for us. If you look closely, you’ll notice a baby doing something called deep belly breathing. This is otherwise known as abdominal breathing.
Benefits of deep belly breathing include:
An increased supply of oxygen and nutrients to cells throughout your body
An increased supply of blood and nutrients to muscle, blood and bones
It releases and reduces muscular tension that can otherwise cause problems
Supports muscle growth and provides energy to get things done
How to practice this breathing technique:
Breathe in deeply into your belly for 4 seconds, and release for 4 seconds. Repeat this sequence 10 times. You can even add a few alarms in your phone to remind you of breathing mindfully throughout your day.
🍇 Food for Thought
Who deserves “power,” and why?
Before you potentially jump to any conclusions about these questions, i.e. “Yah, let’s take the power back!”, or you simply play into the reflexive demonizing and blame-game that can happen, please know that is not at all where this question is coming from, so to speak. Mostly.
On every scale, in terms of every relationship, which is to say in every context, there is a power dynamic, there is someone or something with authority, and there is even a natural hierarchy. No matter what. This is unavoidable.
There are leaders, and there are the led. Something or someone is leading, and there is going to be a power/authority/hierarchy experience.
It’s not necessarily static, but it is real.
None of this is inherently bad, either. It just is.
The foundation for the question is really just this: Do we have good enough standards for WHY someone or something is given or has power?
No matter what, there are standards.
What are they?
Can they improve?
For what it’s worth, I believe that they can be better and need to be better. If they were, I wonder what happen…
Would having new agreed upon standards and requirements for “power/authority”—and in effect hierarchy—serve us in any way?
Who needs to be in agreement here? How many of us? How many is enough?
Would there be inevitable ripple effects?
From the top-down, bottom-up, inside-out, and outside-in, I suspect so.
Ultimately, I don’t have the answers. I have ideas, but not answers. I think in this context the questions are more important. Again, do we even have awareness of WHY we “give power” to someone or something? A person, a group, en entity? We do it, no matter what, even in relationship to ourselves. Regardless of answers, it seems pretty clear that we need to understand power better, to accept authority as an inevitability, and to relate to hierarchy with more fluidity…– Colin Kirts
